Linear-phase low end compression and saturation.

Base Reflex is an audio plugin designed to clarify and add punch to your low end, without substantially altering your LUFS or EQ balance. It does this using intelligent dynamics and saturation that you can dial in quickly—because the device automatically gain-stages itself based on how much effect you request, and it stays calibrated even if your input signal changes in level.

For users seeking a more-powerful low end experience, check out our other plugin, Freedom Base.

Features

  • Low-band processor with adjustable linear-phase crossover frequency from 50 to 300Hz
  • Automatic compression threshold—use the "Compression" dial to control how far the threshold rides below the peaks in your low end
  • Variable attack and release times
  • Simple automatic gate with adjustable range up to 6dB
  • Subtle low-band saturation with automatic gain-staging (oversampled if project sample rate is below 80kHz)
  • Parallel processing via dual gain-matched dry/wet mix controls for dynamics and saturation
  • Mid-side processing (100% unlinked)
  • Automatic make-up gain targeting neutral LUFS impact

How to use

  • Use Base Reflex on your master bus or on individual low-end tracks
  • Set the Release time ("Rel" dial) to best complement the groove of your material
  • Turn up the Compression ("Compr." dial) for more punch, but avoid choking off any sustained low-frequency tones
  • Click the gain reduction display for instant A/B test (bypass mode continues to use CPU in order to keep the plugin calibrated to the incoming signal)
  • Double-click to reset a dial to its default value, or hold <CTRL>/<CMD> to fine-tune

Technical notes

  • Available in VST3 format for PC, and VST3 & AU formats for Mac. AAX support coming soon
  • Requires a compatible Digital Audio Workstation or other plugin host
  • Up to 22ms latency from linear-phase crossovers, depending on user-selected crossover frequency (adjusting frequency may cause brief discontinuities in the signal due to changing plugin latency)
  • No external sidechain capability
  • Plugin is designed for common audio signals such as music and voice; may not react meaningfully to artificial test signals such as chirps, impulses or bursts
