A free, lightweight limiter you can use anywhere

The Reflex Limiter is designed to transparently control the peaks in your signal, while remaining light enough on CPU that you can use it multiple times in your project.

The plugin employs a fast-acting look-ahead compressor in series with a clipper. The compressor alone does not necessarily limit peaks, but it reduces workload for the clipper and allows for a cleaner sound.

The device can also be pushed hard and made to produce crunchy distortion on individual tracks or buses.

Features

  • -6db to +18db Pre-Gain
  • Compressor and clipper can be independently deactivated (note that signal peaks may exceed the threshold if clipping is inactive)
  • Auto Ceiling option sets the output threshold relative to your signal peaks, so that the Ceiling dial now controls how many decibels are removed from peaksregardless of incoming level
  • "O/S" button activates 2x oversampling (if clipping is activated, a backstop clipper will also be applied after downsampling in order to catch any new peaks introduced by the linear-phase antialiasing filter)
  • Optional Matched-LUFS output for A/B testing or for using the device as a LUFS-neutral effect
  • Left & Right channel processing is 100% unlinked

How to use

  • To A/B test, click "Matched" in the LUFS display, then click the waveform display to toggle Bypass mode
  • Hover the mouse over the plugin window to show peak input and output signal voltage over last 3s, as well as estimated CPU usage
  • Double-click to reset a dial to its default value, or hold <CTRL>/<CMD> to fine-tune
  • Consider pairing with the Reflex Pre-Limiter plugin for a more heavy-duty limiting experience

Technical notes

  • Available in VST3 format for PC, and VST3 & AU formats for Mac. AAX support coming soon
  • Requires a compatible Digital Audio Workstation or other plugin host
  • 0-16ms latency, depending on settings
